Erik Slik finished his
studies at the Conservatory of the city of Utrecht, The Netherlands with
distinction. He attended masterclasses of Mark Tucker, Janet Aster, Sabine Vatin, Henk Smit,
Alexander Oliver, Elly Ameling, and now studies with Iris dell'Aqua.
Already during his study Erik
Slik was given
the opportunity to join various opera companies for special productions. In
2004 he sang
his first Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni touring various
theatres in The Netherlands, and was one of the Lehrbuben in Wagner’s Die
Meistersinger in Stadttheater Bielefeld. At De Nederlandse Opera in
Amsterdam he joined the ensemble of the production Raaff, composed by
Robin de Raaff, directed by Pierre Audi, and conducted by Lawrence Renes.
Studio 32 in Utrecht staged Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, conducted by Jan Jansen, where
he sang the part of the 2nd Pastore. He sang Peer Gray in
Hereneiland, composed by J. Horovitz, which was staged during the
Amsterdam Grachtenfestival. Erik participated in two productions of the Nieuwe
Opera Academie, singing Oronte in Händel’s Alcina, conducted by Richard Egarr,
and Flute in Britten’s A Midsummernight’s Dream. With Opera Studio
Nederland he performed Rodriquez in Massenet’s Don Quichotte. During
the rehearsal period he covered for Norman Shankle in Cosí fan
tutte at De Nederlandse Opera, conducted by Ingo Metzmacher and directed
by Jossi Wieler/Sergio Morabito.
In concert Erik Slik could be
heard in Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne, as well as in Béatrice et
Bénédict, both conducted by Kenneth Montgomery. He sang the tenor aria’s
in Pulcinella of Strawinsky conducted by Lev Markiz in the Beurs van
Berlage, Amsterdam, and in Vredenburg, Utrecht, and he joined the
Nederlandse Bach Vereniging to sing the part of Mordecai in Händel’s
Esther under the baton of Richard Egarr. He sang several Lieder by
Schubert with a student symphony orchestra conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend.
With the Berliner Sibelius Orchestra conducted by Stanley Dodds. Erik sang
aria’s of Mozart’s Cosí fan tutte in the Chamber Hall of the Berliner
Philharmonie. In October 2006 he made his debut in the Concertgebouw in
Amsterdam in Schubert Mass nr 6, live recorded for national radio joining
soloists like James Gilchrist and Nino Surguladze.
Erik Slik made his debut at
the Opera in Luxembourg, singing the part of Aladdin in Nino Rota’s Aladdin und die Wunderlampe.
It was revived at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp/Gent. This season he will
make his debut at the Nationale Reisopera as Nathanaël in
Hoffmann's Erzählungen, with the Orkest van het Oosten conducted by William
Lacey and directed by
Laurence Dale.
