Margriet van
Reisen was educated at the Utrecht Conservatory and completed her studies at
London’s Guildhall School of Music. She was awarded first prize in the
Schubert Competition, and received honors in the Queen Elisabeth Competition
in Brussels.
A central
position in her work is occupied by performances in concert, above all in
music of the late Romantics and of the 20th century, from Mahler to Boulez.
Ms. Van
Reisen made her Berlin Philharmonic debut in Ligeti’s Requiem under Jonathan
Nott, which was subsequently recorded. Last season she performed this same
piece, again with Jonathan Nott, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam during
the ZaterdagMatinee. Among the other orchestras and conductors with
whom Ms Van Reisen has collaborated are the Schoenberg Ensemble, the
Orquesta Nacional de Espagna, the Hague Residentie Orchestra, the
Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Belgique,
the Bamberg Symfonic and the Symphony Orchestra of Montreal under conductors
like Richard Hickox, Josep Pons, Marc Soustrot and Reinbert de Leeuw.
She made her debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Mozart’s Thamos,
conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt.
Margriet van
Reisen has toured Spain with the Schönberg Ensemble / Orchestra of the 18th
Century conducted by Frans Brüggen with Berio’s Folk Songs. Last season she
did concerts in Beijing, Korea and Japan.
Her first
operatic roles were in Handel’s Rinaldo, Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi,
and Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins. David Pountney directed the music
theatre piece Zora D. by Isidora Zebeljan with stagings in Amsterdam
and Vienna, in which she played the part of Mlada Vida. Last season she
sang the part of part of Auntie in Benjanmin Britten’s Peter Grimes with the
Orquesta de Valencia, conducted by Josep Pons.
Margriet van
Reisen has made her debut at De Nederlandse Opera as 3.Magd in Strauss’
Elektra, followed by Ilana in Michel van der Aa’s After Life, a
coproduction of De Nederlandse Opera with Holland Festival. A revival of
this production will follow in 2009, bringing the production to Lyon and to
the Barbican Center in London. Next season Margriet van Reisen will sing 3.
Magd in Strauss’ Elektra at the Théatre du Capitole in Toulouse, and soon
will make her debut at La Monnaie in Brussels in Wagner's Parsifal.
Margriet van
Reisen recorded Mis (Mass) by Johannes Verhulst with the Residentie Orkest,
and the Requiem of Duruflé with the Brabants Orkest, as well as a cd with
Lieder by Brahms and the Dutch composer Julius Röntgen. With the Belgium
ensemble Oxalys she recorded a cd with Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. This
summer Margriet recorded Tristan Keuris’ Three Michelangelo Songs with
Holland Symfonia conducted by Otto Tausk.
With
percussionist Arnold Marinissen Ms van Reisen developed a highly successful
children's performance PRRRRAAAT !, with merely any spoken text, but in
stead a lot of singing with songs of composers like Berio, Britten,
Schwitters, Stravinsky.
